Making it easier for people from Hong Kong to become permanent residents of our country
September 13, 2023
On behalf of the Honourable @seanfrasermp, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, I was proud to announce another way Canada is making it easier for people from Hong Kong to become permanent residents of our country.

As of August 15th of this year, our government will be removing the education requirement for those with at least a year of full‑time work experience in Canada. Removing this requirement means more Hong Kongers who have worked in Canada will be eligible for permanent residence, easing the transition to permanent status for those who are already working in Canada under the open work permit program.

Our government is continually working to expand these pathways and make it easier for citizens from around the world to remain in Canada long term.
